Homemade Buttermilk Hot Honey Biscuits

Homemade Buttermilk Hot Honey Biscuits

Making homemade biscuits is a breeze! While it requires a tad more effort than opening a can, the delicious results make it totally worth it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup Mountain Ridge Hot Honey
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, frozen
  • Additional buttermilk for brushing

How to Prepare:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Prepare the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and 1/4 cup of honey.
  4. Grate the Butter: Use a box grater to shred the frozen butter directly into the flour mixture.
  5. Incorporate the Butter: Using a pastry cutter or your hands, gently cut the butter into the flour until it forms small pea-sized balls. Avoid over-handling the dough to prevent the butter from warming up.
  6. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add the buttermilk-honey mixture to the flour-butter mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a soft dough forms.
  7. Shape the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured work surface and form it into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle. Fold one side into the center, then fold the other side over like a letter. Gently flatten the smaller rectangle to the original thickness. Repeat this folding and flattening process two more times.
  8. Final Shaping: After the final fold, flatten the dough into a 1-inch thick 8×8 square. Use a bench scraper or knife to cut it into 6 equally sized squares.
  9. Bake the Biscuits: Place the cut biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 3 inches of space between each. Brush the tops of the biscuits with additional buttermilk. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 18-20 minutes, until they are puffy and mostly baked.
  10. Finish with Honey Butter: While the biscuits are baking, melt the remaining butter and whisk in the honey. After the initial baking time, remove the biscuits from the oven and brush them with the honey butter mixture. Return them to the oven and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  11. Serve: Serve the biscuits warm. Enjoy their delicious homemade flavor!

These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh from the oven, but you can store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for a few minutes before serving.
